  ACT - Jacqueline Gellatly

I became a therapist in this field in 1995 and since that time I have been constantly upgrading my skills and knowledge through professional development courses conducted by Ian White.

You may notice from other practitioner pages that some of us have previously studied analytical or clinical hypnotherapy. As noted elsewhere on this site, af-x® is NOT hypnotherapy. It is a therapy that has moved beyond the limitations and shortcomings of this older approach, through the application of the most recent and in-depth scientific knowledge about the human emotional matrix. PSH Therapy, NewCode PSH and Bridging Systems Therapy were all older steps along the way. But af-x has moved much further ahead, requiring the coining and protection of new terminology, to ensure only the most dedicated and responsible practitioners can use the term.

Since my early training I have been keen to stay abreast of new findings and advances as researched and implemented by Ian. I have always seen this as vital to maintaining a personal and social responsibility in the business of therapy.

The need to remain "current" in one's knowledge was brought home to me very recently. Someone who is very close to me almost died as the result of a professional not staying abreast of current research and knowledge. The attending doctor was responsible for prescribing a regime of drugs that brought about the onset of diabetes and a serious set of ongoing symptoms. After the mistake was discovered, and after much care, the patient recovered.

So basically the problem arose because someone to be trusted as a specialist in their field let their patient down badly. They were either not across the latest relevant pharmaceutical information, or not bothered enough to inform their patient of the potential risks.

This little story goes to the heart of the reason I am now and af-x Practitioner, that is, I have striven to keep up with the most recent findings and methods in this field. To be a registered af-x Practitioner means committing to continual professional upgrading in the theory and practice of Affectology so that similar stories are impossible in our field. It also means that clinical performance is constantly evaluated in a manner that protects client confidentiality but assures a high level of registered practitioners. The level of professionalism required by af-x developer Ian White is exemplary, and is the reason this new terminology has been trademark protected.
