This program is divided into separate Tiers
of study, with the successful completion of each Tier being
mandatory in order to progress to the next. The basic structures
of those Tiers of study are as follows.
TIER 1
Certificate of Affectology™ Theory
(External Studies)
This Tier offers an in-depth study into the
complexities, frailties and strengths of the emotional subconscious
and how it impacts on current living. It delves into the neurological
formative structures of the emotional matrix and the way in
which people develop and maintain feeling and behavioural
habits and responses.
It also deals with the deconstructing of damaging
contemporary socio-professional myths about emotional, mental
and physical health, investigating the fragile structures
of existing "talk" therapies and narrative approaches.
Tier 1 is offered only as a "home-based"
external study, available on CD-ROM and completed through
electronic correspondence (email). It includes a number of
progressive (minor) written assignments and a final written
assessment.
Topics studied:
mind and subconscious mind processes
evolution of habitual responses
concepts of ideogenetics, and "sense of self"
inherent bridging systems
paralogical awareness states (other than hypnosis, meditation
or "trance")
complexities of memory, conscious and unconscious
history of psychobicameralism
affective neuroscience – encoding, imprinting, unconscious
memory tracing
mind-body relationship systems – Amygdala, Hippocampus,
Autonomic Nervous System
cycles of feeling/emotion/somatic manifestation
cognitive imperative in therapy – transduction during
session work
"benevolent constraint" principles in therapeutic
work
the heresies of affectology
subconscious learning principles
unconscious sub-personalities and "parts drivers"
introduction to memetics
TIER 2
Certificate of Practical Affectology™
(Attendant Practical Training in Clinical Procedures)
Tier 2 is concerned with a student's "integration"
of components of the external theory studies to support the
Tier's training in the practical application of that
theory. It is important to point out that this school's
approach is to teach the fundamental and detailed aspects
of the human affect substrate before any
instruction relating to its manipulation rather than
to teach therapeutic practices without a sound understanding
of "why."
This study Tier involves approximately 90 attendant
(face-to-face) tutorial hours. This does not include additional
hours for assessment and home study (reading) and mandatory
clinical session work.
While this segment is concerned with instruction
in the practical application in the clinical context, it additionally
focuses on the "business" aspects of clinical
establishment. On the completion of Tier 2 students commence
clinical practice.
This entire program is designed to give each
trainee the opportunity to easily cover the course's
fees through the mandatory client session work during Tier
2a.
TIER 2a
(Clinical Development Training)
In order to qualify for their Diploma, trainees
must, immediately at the finish of Tier 2, begin their practice
on a professional basis and conduct a minimal number of paid
sessions (usually 100) in order for the school to ascertain
their levels of skill and performance; see ESR.
The schools conduct their own "training" ESR systems
for this purpose.
During this Tier trainees attend any required
developmental workshops that concentrate on developing individual
(and group) clinical performance based on the results of client
feedback to date. (This usually involves only one weekend
workshop).
This ensures that trainees are "proven"
in regard to their standard of clinical practice before being
awarded diploma status.
This greatly assists in developing a level of
professional skill and confidence and once they have completed
the client feedback (ESR) requirements of the course trainees
are awarded the Diploma of Affectology™
qualification.
TIER 3
Certificate of Advanced Affectology™ Theory
(External Studies)
This advanced theory component is completed
by Diploma graduates on the internet through CD-ROM and email
contact as external home-based study (Like Tier 1). It includes
a number of written assignments.
As well as advanced theory study, much of Tier
3 involves an ongoing platform of advanced and up-to-the-minute
information exchange between trainees and Ian White in his
dealings with the public, the media, and with the ICSPP (International
Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology, New York,
U.S.A.) of which he is Senior Advisory Council member.
Proceeding to "af-x®"
Practitioner status is contingent on the successful completion
of Tier 3 studies and continued satisfactory clinical performance
and conduct (within specific guidelines relating to concept
adherence, promotional issues and personal/professional integrity).
